Former president Jacob Zuma says the State Attorney and Presidency committed financial misconduct when they unlawfully agreed to fund his corruption trial legal costs and insists he cannot now be expected to pay the R28.9 million bill he racked up.
In papers filed at the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria, the former president argued granting the State Attorney and Presidency's application that he be ordered to repay that amount (plus interest) would be "oppressive and inimical to my constitutional rights".
"For starters, I do not have that kind of money and I dare say that no State official would ever be able to pay this amount of money.
