I love roasting carrots in the oven because they come out perfectly tender and I can usually throw them in the oven while I’m preparing the rest of our meal.

Wonderful recipe! Made some modifications because I wanted to try the recipe asap and don't want to go to the store, haha. I used whole carrots (4 very large ones and sliced them), and substituted honey for agave syrup. Baked 35mins @400. YUMMM!!!!

  14. Kim B says:

Tried these last night with a family of picky eaters that snal their noses at anything healthy...these were a big hit! Thanks

  15. Down South Mama says:

These look great but i feel that i should mention that avoiding baby carrots whenever possible is best. Manufacturers run them through a bleach bath to achieve their smooth appearance. Just a thought. Carrots with skin are much healthier anyway!

  16. Abbey B says:

Hello! These carrots sound so yummy! If I wanted to cook these in the crock pot instead of in the oven, how long would you suggest they cook for?

  17. Cyd says:

The high temp on a crock pot is about 300 degrees (depending on the brand of the crock pot). According to our recipe these cook in the oven at 400. We have only made them in the oven so we aren't sure what the length of cooking time would be. You will need to cook a little longer to make up for the temp difference.

  18. HEather says:

How soft are these carrots? I need soft carrots because I have had major dental work. TIA

  19. Cyd says:

They are fork tender, but if you need them softer from your dental work, just cook a little bit longer. Best of luck with your mouth healing!

Honey Roasted Carrots Recipe (2024)

FAQs

Why are my roasted carrots still hard? ›

Undercook them, and the texture is tough and dense. Overcook them, and they're dry and wrinkled. The secret is to soften the carrots slightly by boiling them briefly before roasting. The texture will be firm-tender with just the right amount of caramelization on the outside.

What makes carrots taste better? ›

Roasting really brings out carrots' best qualities. To make them, just toss carrots with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Bake until they're golden on the edges and tender throughout.

How do you get the most flavor out of carrots? ›

Here's some of our favorites to sprinkle on carrots:
  1. Garlic (minced, powder or granules)
  2. Onion powder or granules.
  3. Black malabar pepper.
  4. Cinnamon (Cassia for sweeter, Ceylon for sweetness with some more complex savory and vanilla flavors)
  5. Nutmeg powder.

How to make Gordon Ramsay carrots? ›

Cooking instructions

Heat the olive oil in a large sauté pan, then add the carrots and parsnips and toss to coat in the oil. Add the thyme, cinnamon, star anise and some seasoning. Cook over a medium heat for 15-20 minutes, turning the vegetables frequently, until golden brown and almost cooked through.

Why won't my carrots get soft in the oven? ›

If you don't par cook the carrots, they will cook faster on the outside than the inside when they are in the oven. It also gives them a better texture. Raw carrots that are roasted can be a little rubbery and chewy. Par boiling softens them, so they have a tender texture.

Why won't my roast veggies go crispy? ›

If the pan is packed too tightly, the vegetables will steam instead of caramelizing. The result is sad, limp, less-than-flavorful vegetables. The solution: Give your vegetables some room to breathe. Arrange the veggies in a single layer, keeping at least a quarter inch of space between them.

What enhances carrot flavor? ›

Flavor Enhancements

Use spearmint, marjoram, a small bay leaf, thyme, grated ginger root, chopped chives, dill or parsley.

How do you intensify carrot Flavour? ›

Carrots go well with orange, either for savory or sweet dishes. They help to increase the sweetness in a pleasant way. Other citrus, such as lemon, can enhance the carrot flavors too. Add a little brown sugar to carrots to bring out the sweetness in carrots.

Why do restaurant carrots taste better? ›

The simple answer to why roasted vegetables from a restaurant taste so good: lots of fat and salt and high heat.

What pairs well with carrots? ›

For example, carrots are said to pair exceptionally well with butter, ginger, lemon, maple syrup, orange, parsley, and sugar. Other ingredients that are said to pair well with carrots include cinnamon, coriander, dill, lime, spearmint, olive oil, parsnips, salt, tarragon, thyme, etc.

Why do my carrots taste bland? ›

There are a few possibilities for why your carrots aren't as sweet as they should be. You are right to think about your soil--a crop of carrots can deplete a soil of nutrients. Be sure to rotate crops in your garden, rather than planting carrots in the same place year after year.

What not to mix carrots with? ›

Mixing carrots and oranges can be very dangerous. This mix has been known to cause heartburn and kidney damage.

Why do chefs peel carrots? ›

Tasters unanimously preferred the peel-free carrots in the glazed and roasted samples. In both cases, the skins on the unpeeled carrots became wrinkled, tough, and gritty. Their flavor was “again earthier, but not in a good way” and they weren't particularly appealing looking.

Why do my carrots stay hard after cooking? ›

I've found that carrots generally need quite rapid boiling to get nicely soft, unless they're going to simmer for quite a long time like at least an hour or two. Vegetables cook particularly slowly in thick liquid like tinned tomatoes.

How long does it take for carrots to soften when cooking? ›

Cook carrots in a large pot of boiling water until tender, about 8 to 10 minutes.

Why are my carrots so hard? ›

There are several things that can cause carrots to go "woody". Environmental factors such as too hot and dry, or too cold and wet, irregular watering, poor drainage or leaving the carrots in the ground for too long.

Why do my carrots keep going soft? ›

Your carrots might just need a big gulp of water. If you notice that your bag of carrots is bendy, place them in a glass jar or zip-top plastic bag and fill it with water to cover them. Check back in an hour; they should be firming right up.
